APNU+AFC Coalition seizes power through fraudulent results

Georgetown: The APNU+AFC Coalition has seized power and declared themselves victorious after announcing unverified results by Returning Officer of Region Four, Clairmont Mingo.

The results of the Statement of Polls

The declaration stated that the Coalition received 136,458 votes and the PPP received 77,329 votes.

The results for Region four were released to the media by the Public Relations Officer of GECOM, Yolanda Ward late Thursday without a lawful verification taking place. It was signed by Mr Mingo.

However, this is not what was stated on the statement of polls which shows the PPP with 80, 344 votes and the APNU+AFC 114,345.

The PPP Statements when added with results from the other nine regions show the PPP winning by over 17,000 votes.

Observers and other political parties have agreed with the data provided by the PPP as they are also in possession of the Statements of Poll.

The PPP has since filed an injunction in the High Court which restrains the Guyana Elections Commission from declaring the unverified results of the March 2, 2020 general and regional elections and to compel the Returning Officer to comply with the legal process of verification.

The PPP filed the injunction through Attorney Anil Nandlall. A court-martial accompanied Nandlall to the GECOM Command Centre at High and Hadfield Streets, Georgetown and served the order on the Chief Elections Officer Keith Lowenfield.

A copy of the injunction is seeking to restrain GECOM and its agents from in any manner declaring the total number of valid votes of electors for each List of Candidates recorded in the Guyana National and Regional Elections unless the Returning Officer Clairmont Mingo and the Chief Elections Officer, Keith Lowenfield, comply with and ensures the compliance of the process set out by the provision” in section 84 of the Representation of the Peoples Act.

The following statement is released on behalf of the British High Commissioner, H.E. Greg Quinn, the Canadian High Commissioner, H.E. Lilian Chaterjee, the Ambassador of the European Union, H.E. Fernando Ponz Canto, and the Ambassador of the United States of America, H.E. Sarah-Ann Lynch:

“Based on our observation of today’s GECOM proceedings at their Region 4 office, and the fact that the full count was not completed, we question the credibility of the Region 4 results published by GECOM today.

“We urge the Guyana Elections Commission, and all relevant actors, to expeditiously complete the tabulation on the basis of the statement of polls.

“We call on all Guyanese to remain calm and patient, and for all leaders to exercise responsibility and restraint.”
