Georgetown : Efforts are underway to ensure that closer ties are established between Guyana and Argentina and in this regard Agriculture Minister Noel Holder today received a courtesy call from Argentine Ambassador to Guyana H.E Luiz Alberto Martino at his Regent and Vlissengen Roads Office.
During the meeting, Ambassador Alberto Martino reaffirmed his country’s support to ensure continued cooperation with Guyana, since the re-establishment of the foreign mission in 2011. Possible areas for collaboration were also discussed which were centered around soil and post-harvest management, animal husbandry, research – agriculture biotechnology, value-added and marketing.
“We (Argentine Government) look forward to stronger relations especially in agriculture as we move forward in pushing the development of the sector…agriculture remains an important sector to any economy, and we stand committed to working together to ensure a stronger sector,” Ambassador Alberto Martino said.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is expected to be concluded and signed shortly between the two countries which will reaffirm their common interest to strengthen ties within the framework of the Argentine South/South Cooperation Programme.
A joint cooperation programme is also expected to be established.
Argentina and Guyana have, over the years, shared fruitful bilateral relations. The two countries have collaborated in several areas since the reestablishment of an Embassy in Guyana in 2011. (Ministry of Agriculture-June 17, 2015)
