Arthur reaching out to Mottley

Bridgetown.

Leader of the Opposition  Barbados Labour Party (BLP) Owen Arthur last night made an attempt to heal the rift  between him and  former Leader of the Oppostion Mia Mottley.

Speaking at a mass political meeting at Haggatt Hall, St Michael  Arthur said the BLP would contest the next general election pulling on the same rope and  in the same direction.

"Tonight I will start binding up the wounds of the Barbados Labour Party. Mia I have work for you, on March 12 you will reply to the Estimates, not me. When Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler bring his Budget, you will respond to not me. All together, pulling on the same rope and pulling in the same direction", Arthur told the cheering crowd. Mottley was deposed Opposition Leader by Arthur in October 2010.

The mass meeting was held under the theme "CLICO A Call For Justice", the former Prime Minister told the large crowd, the CLICO debacle was one of the greatest acts of financial mismanagement in the history of the region.

According to Arthur,  the issue did not just  surround the late Prime Minister David Thompson and CLICO's former executive chairman Leroy Parris but the entire Democratic Labour Party (DLP) Government.

"This is one of the reasons why the DLP should not merit your confidence to be returned as your Government again. It is because this Government has created an environment where the CLICO debacle could be fostered and nurtured", Arthur said.
