Georgetown : President Bharrat Jagdeo believes Government’s efforts to improve sectors beneficial to the working class and, financial management of the economy should be assessed in the same way the scale of earnings is scrutinized.
Speaking at the first Triennial Conference of the National Association of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE) at Umana Yana, President Jagdeo said it is important for unions to pay specific attention to Government’s approach on these matters.
“In the style of management and policy measures that they (Governments) use to manage the fiscal and monetary affairs of the country, lies a very dangerous phenomena and that is the possibility of erosion of fiscal gains at the level of the family,” President Jagdeo said.
He told the workers of his administration’s efforts over the years to return dynamism to the economy, taking it from a poor state to one where reserves in the central bank are at its highest, inflation is single digit and there are significant improvements in the social sectors, particularly housing, education and healthcare.
The majority of NAACIE members are employees of state agencies including the Guyana Power and Light (GPL), the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) and the Chinese run BOSAI bauxite mining company.
