Attorney General promote handsfree phones

Bridgetown.

The Government of Barbados is leaning towards permitting the use of handsfree phones while driving rather than a full ban on cellphones.

Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite made this disclosure yesterday during a meeting with the General Association of Barbados at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

"We will have some kind of legislative intervention sometime later this year with respect to the issue of cellphones, we think that handsfree cellphones  maybe the way to go," Brathwaite said.

He added that it was incorrect to blame the use of  mobile phones for vehicular accidents, Brathwaite said there are several acts of lawlessness by drivers on the road among them are reading books, newspapers and the application of makeup.

"Just banning cellphones will not reduce accidents, we have to encourage drivers to be more responsible," Brathwaite said.
