Attorney General still on the job

St. John’s, Antigua: Despite reports of his resignation, over the weekend, because of the failure to seek his advice on the appointment of Guyanese Sanjeev Datadin as a special constable in serious commercial fraud matters, the Attorney General, Justin Simon, was still on the job yesterday, according to a report in the Antigua Observer.

Sanjeev Datadin was sworn in last Tuesday, unknown to the chief legal advisor, by Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh and Commissioner of Police Vere Browne.

Evidence that he would remain on the job for some time yet came with his announcement that he would ensure that the appointment is corrected according to the laws. “Whatever was done clearly is a nullity … how we go forward is another matter, but I will be involved in whatever process there will be thereafter,” Simon said according to the Antigua Observer report.
