Pandamonium broke out late this afternoon along the West Bank of Demerara just a few minutes drive from the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

Along  Vreed –en-Hoop village water from the Demerara River over flowed and flooded the area. It was reported that cars were unable to traverse the road because the water was about 8 inches above he ground and continues to rise.

The road is higher than the land where thousands of residents live.

At about 11:30h today 18 year old Keisha Fernandes of Block ‘Y’ Cummings Lodge, ECD, was abducted by a woman from her work place in Brickdam, Georgetown, and taken to a hotel in Church Street, Georgetown.

Acting promptly on the reports made and information received, the police went to the hotel where they found Keisha Fernandes and the woman. The woman was arrested and will attend court tomorrow to face charges.

This afternoon a search at the home of Dexter Gaspar at Kaikon Street, South Ruimveldt found his body bounded and bore several stabbed wounds.

According to an eye witness Dexter who works at Hand In Hand Insurance company within the Life Department did not show up to work today and several persons along with the police launched a search since the house was seen wide open.

Residents in the area said his yard was under water today from the heavy rainfalls last night and loud music was heard coming from the man’s house.

Government intends to assist depositors and shareholders adversely affected by the collapse of Clico and The Hindu Credit Union. Small Depositors will be paid up to a maximum of $75,000 both failed financial institutions. It would pay off close to 40 percent of the depositors at the institutions.

The consortium is calling for the disability grant to be increased to $3000.
