Authorities crack down on illegal hunting in Western Peninsula

Chaguaramas: The Chaguaramas Development Authority says that as it continues its crackdown on illegal hunting in the Chaguaramas Peninsula, two animal traps were discovered and one scaffolding destroyed over the last week by the Security and Risk Department.

The Authority says, the find came after a team of officers set out on an exercise within the forested Tucker Valley region, as well as the areas surrounding the historic Bamboo Cathedral in search of illegal hunters as well as animal traps.

The officers reported  that they saw  a scaffolding built in trees by hunters who carefully observe the animals before they are cornered and killed. The scaffolding was destroyed while two animal traps were also retrieved.

The Authority says this latest development also comes on the heels of the release of a monkey which was found trapped in a wire cage, set by hunters at the Tracking Station, over the weekend. The monkey was eventually released.
