Avoidable accident

Corner Faith Marshall-Harris in a strongly worded summary and verdict  stated the August 27, 2007 cave -in at Arch Cot , Brittons Hill, St Michael, that claim the the lives of  Donavere Codrington, his wife Cassandra and their three children Shaquille, Shaquanda and Yashiro  could have been avoided.

Marshall-Harris said that the Codrington family need not to have died since the Shalom Apartment building were they lived for a mere two months should never have been built on that fragile area and excavation work near the building should have been stopped on July 9, 2007 a month before the incident when a massive hole appear.

Before a packed Corner' Court Marshall said,"This was an avoidable accident. An accident in the context of a Coroner' Court is an event that take place over which human beings have little control.I have carefully not said misadventure because I think it is more than that".

"It was an accident but it was an accident where a number of persons acting properly could have ensure that it was avoided",she added.
