Flour prices rise….bakers urged to soften impact on consumers

Georgetown- The 10% hike in flour prices this week may be phased out in the coming months once the international shortage and effects changes. This is according to Government officials and head of the National Milling company. Originally the bakers proposed a 15 % increase but was persuaded by Government to reduce that to 10% in the interest of consumers. Some bakers as early as two weeks ago raised their prices, however they were required to regularize the price in keeping with the 10% increase. Government has lifted all restrictions, for the importation of flour and will monitor the importation at the level of the food and drugs department and the Bureau of Standards.”
