Barbadians filling the majority of nursing posts at hospital

Bridgetown.

More than two thirds of the nursing staff at the Queen Elzabeth Hospital (QEH), Minister of Health, Donville Inniss  announced yesterday in the House of Assembly that there were 400 Barbadian nurses  employed at the QEH and 90 non nationals.

According to Inniss, this is significant reduction from three years ago when as many as 200 foreign nurses were employed at the island's lone hospital.

Inniss thaked the foreign nurses for their service at the hospital:"I don't want to be ungrateful. I  wish to express my gratitude to those who ventured from other parts of the and came to the assistance of Barbados at the time of our greatest need", he told the House.

He added that it was the hope of the Government, that in the not too distant future Barbados would be in the position to export nurses.
