Governor General of Canada His Exllency David Johnson, has lauded Barbados as a model to the world for its commitment to providing free education to all citizen from nursery to university.
"Barbados has for many years committed the largest portion of its annual budget to education which admirable", Johnson told members of the press during a brief media conference at the St Ann's Fort, The Garrison .
Johnson, a former principal of McGill University said Canada try to ensure that loans and grants are available to families who could afford to pay for their education.
"What we do is try to ensure that grants and loans are available to families that could not afford it , like Barbados we believe that accessibility and quality in education are absolutely paramount", Johnson said.
The Governor General and his wife were in Barbados on a two day offical visit, during his stay on the island Johnson met with with Acting Governor General Elliott Belgrave and Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
