Barbados holding its own during recession says Prime Minister

Bridgetown.

Prime Minister of Barbados Freundel Stuart says Barbados is holding its own in spite of the impact the current recession is having on the country.

Speaking at a Memorial Service held for the late Prime Minister David Thompson at the Massiah Wesleyan Holiness Church, St John.

Stuart said recent reports suggested that it might take 10 years for the world to emerge from the current economic crisis and while Barbados played no role in creating the situation, Barbadians continue to feel the effects.

"We are aware, all of us in the Cabinet  discuss it every single week. We acknowledge it every week that households in Barbados are hurting. After all we are sitting in the wrost crisis this country has faced since the Second World War", Stuart said.

He explained that these matters were were beyond the control of the Government and the best thing they can do is to evaluate the situation and place Barbados in a position to minimise the pain that will be felt by the people.
