Bridgetown.
Workers at the Barbados National Bank (BNB) are on sickout. as a result two of the bank's branches at Limegrove and Wildey are closed.
On Friday, general secretary of the Barbados Workers' Union (BUW), Sir Roy Trotman outlined the union disagreement with the bank.
Sir Roy said an April 4 date had been set for talks at the Labour Department with BNB, following the bank's disgusting move to revert to a lesser pay offer as negotiations dragged into two years.
"It makes a farce of the entire exercise, they are not really serious", Sir Roy said.
He stated the BNB had initially offered a lump payment of two percent each year for three years, starting April1, 2010. That changed yesterday afternoon, Sir Roy said when the company fell back to a formal position of one percent in the first and second years and one and a half in the third year. The BWU's proposal is five and six percent.
It is not know how many of the bank's 509 employees have stayed away from work this morning, there are long lines at all of 6 the branches that are open.
Manager of Marketing and Communications at the BNB says they have been dealing adequately with the needs of their customers.
