The number of coronavirus cases in Guyana has been climbing steadily especially in the Region One and Region Seven areas.

Region One has more than 70 active cases making it the new hotspot for the disease. A number of communities in that region are expected to go on a complete lockdown from this weekend.

The Public Health Ministry continues to plea with residents and miners in the two communities to follow the health and safety guidelines.

Health officials in the Region have been complaining that residents have not been taking the disease seriously. They are hoping now with the increase in numbers, they will realise that the coronavirus is real and so too is its threat to the communities and their livelihoods.
