Christopher Ram responds to CNS 6 sacking his programme

Georgetown :Hosts of the programme “Keeping Them Honest” Christopher Ram and Raymond Gaskin briefing the media this afternoon said the decision of the executive authorities to intimidate the Sharmas and TV Channel 6 into closing down the public affairs programme “Keeping Them Honest” is not only utterly disgraceful and obscene. It constitutes a grave violation by the Jagdeo Government of the fundamental right of Guyanese to free expression guaranteed in Article 146 of the Constitution and the several conventions and treaties to which Guyana is a party, including the United Nations Convention on Civil and Political Rights and the Chapultepec Declaration .

Ram went on to say “the apparent success of the executive in terrorizing Channel 6 to bow to its dictat and essentially dictate programming in a private medium because of its intolerance for viewpoints and political insecurity is the latest wake up call for Guyanese to stand up to bullyism and dictatorship.

We are committed to that duty, regardless of the personal cost or other consequences. Gaskin and Ram will not be silenced by any power hungry individual or group and will pursue all avenues to ensure not only that Guyanese are informed about the honesty or otherwise of its political rulers but that our people’s fundamental rights are respected,  our national constitution is more than paper, and  that the country’s international obligations are honoured.  “

Sharma pulled off the “Keeping them Honest” programme from his channel after a discussion he claimed with the relevant authorities about the critical Government topics.
