Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall Thursday evening tabled the Deeds and Commercial Registry Authority Bill that provides for the establishment of the Deeds and Commercial Registries Authority as a corporate body, as well as a governing Board of the Authority for its first reading in the National Assembly.
The Bill states that in light of the economic advancement of Guyana, especially in the field of trade and commerce, the present organisation of the Deeds Registry is somewhat inadequate to serve the public.
The Bill therefore provides for the Deeds Registry to perform the functions relating to Deeds while the Commercial Registry will deal with matters that broadly falls outside the ambit of the Deeds Registry.
Matters relating to companies, business names, patents, sale of goods, and trade marks will be placed under the commercial Registry.
It is hoped that this new arrangement would provide more expeditious service to the public and will be able to facilitate the business community more efficiently.
