Georgetown- Bodies were falling like flies during the infamous Mash day jailbreak saga back in 2002. A gang war among criminals had erupted ripping through a most fragile society gripped by fear and anger. The latest among such similar attacks is the bloody execution of 26 year old Travis Rudder and the critical wounding of 18 months old son and wife. In the wee hours of Sunday morning gunmen sprayed bullets from a bedroom window while the family slept. Police recovered at least eighteen 9mm bullet casings from the scene. Sources say that Rudder is the latest victim of a prolonged war between gangs on the East Bank of Demerara. Recently an Agricola resident  was shot and robbed in McDoom in January, and later gunned down in a minibus three months later. Rudder reportedly escaped execution a few weeks ago at the hands of some of his associates in La Penitence area. Two gang members were recently held by police with an unlicenced firearm and are currently incarcerated in the Camp Street Prison. It is beleived that the now dead man may have been behind their incarceration. Rudder has a serious rap sheet and was accused of the March, 2007 murder of his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend Donnis King, who was shot in the stomach at her Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara home. He was arrested some six months after the killing, but was found not guilty in 2011. He was later in trouble again, having been caught with an illegal firearm and ammunition.
