Board of Directors appointed at CJIA

Georgetown: Bishop Edghill, Minister of Public Works on Tuesday installed the New Board of Directors of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport. The Chief Executive Officer of the airport, Mr. Ramesh Ghir, ex-officio member to the Board was also present at the installation.

Mr. David A. Ramdeholl (member), Ms. Savitree Sharma (member), new Chairman of the Board is Mr. Sanjeev Datadin, Hon. Bishop Juan Edghill-Minister of Public Works, Ms. Daun Ellis(member), Dr. Amarnauth Dukhi(member), Mr. Sean Richmond(member), and Mr. Ramesh Ghir- Chief Executive Officer

According to Minister Edghill the Board was named by Cabinet and it was his privilege and duty as subject Minister to install the Board Tuesday.

The new Chairman of the Board is Mr. Sanjeev Datadin while Mr. David A. Ramdeholl, Mr. Sean Richmond, Dr. Amarnauth Dukhi, Ms. Savitree Sharma, and Ms. Daun Ellis were named Board Members.

The Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) has been without a board for approximately two months and the newly appointed Directors are optimistic that they will service the sector with efficiency, reliability and zest to carry the airport to a place where travelers will enjoy their experience.

In giving a charge to the new Board of Directors Hon. Bishop Edghill outlined a number of things he wishes to see the Board implement for the enhancement and development of the airport.

  1. 5-7 days parking must be facilitated for passengers. Passengers must be afforded the opportunity to return home and have the comfort of their vehicles at the airport.
  2. A hotel in close proximity must be built to encourage transiting passengers to stay longer in our country.
  3. We must modernize the airport to a hub so as to have a wide range of amenities, such as, car rentals, cellular phone rentals, restaurants, bars, movie theaters, shopping plazas and much more.
  4. Our taxi service mut be vibrant and welcoming, the system must be efficient and organized.

Minister Edghill further highlighted that, His Excellency Dr. Irfaan Ali has made it clear that we need an airport with the original design of eight boarding bridges and that must be at the top of the new Board’s agenda.

According to Minister Edghill this must be done because the Dr. Irfaan Ali’s Administration envisages Guyana being a tourist destination of choice and developing capacity for hosting conventions

As it relates to security Minister Edghill urged the Board to ensure that at no time must the VIP lounge or the ordinary check-in lounge be used as an avenue to illicit drugs.

In summation, Minister Edghill congratulated the newly appointed Board of Directors and wished them best of success as they build and improve the systems at the airport.

The Chairman of the Board and all other members accepted their new posts and has committed to serve for the advancement and development of the airport.
