Body found near Maloney identified

Port of Spain; A corpse was found partially decomposed in a river off the Churchill Roosevelt Highway near Maloney last Friday. Yesterday it was positively identified as that of Johnny Noel, aged 32. An autopsy performed at the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park, concluded Noel was shot in his head and chest. Meanwhile three special-reserve policemen who were arrested for Noel's abduction remain in custody. Noel's abduction occured on 11 March and the 3 SRP'S were arrested together with an inspector on March 15, but are yet to be charged.

Last Friday the inspector was able to walk out of the Hall of Justice after his attorney argued that since his client had not yet been charged, the state had no grounds to keep him in custody. However the three SRP'S were not as fortunate. Noel's sisters informed the media that he was not residing in Maloney but he would go there to "breeze with his friends." They claim they were told that on March 11 four men dressed in police clothes and wearing masks showed up at the apartment where Noel was staying and arrested him.

The next day when they enquired as to which station he was taken to they were unable to locate him. Although there were rumors circulating that Noel was a known drug lord his sisters insisted he was never involved in anything and was not a person to have weed, ammunition or guns on him. They believe his killers took him did what they wanted with him and left him for two weeks to die like a dog.
