Berbice: The body of a mentally ill woman identified as Stay Conway was discovered along the southern side of the Number 11 Public Road sometime around 07:30hrs on Monday.
Sources revealed that the police received an anonymous call about a corpse along the public road. The corpse was on its right side and clad in a dark coloured top and trousers; a black hand bag was near the body. There were wounds on the left arm and blood stains were on the back where the top had been rolled up leaving the midsection of the corpse bare. Detectives were diligently combing the area for anything of evidential value.
Detectives believe that the deceased was struck down elsewhere, then transported and dumped along the roadway.
The body is awaiting a post-mortem examination to ascertain the cause of death.
The deceased’s younger sister, Jacqulin Conway, 45, who resides at Glasgow Housing Scheme, said the deceased was the eldest of four sisters and their brother Charles died about nine years ago. Jacqulin explained that her two sisters Stay and Cora suffered from mental illness and lived on the streets or in abandoned houses around New Amsterdam.
It was disclosed that the deceased bore three children – one died and the others reside with relatives in Kwakwani. Jacqulin, who is employed at the Mayor and Town Council of New Amsterdam, said Friday was the last time Stay came to see her at the market. So, when the police called her to identify the body at the New Amsterdam Mortuary on Monday, she was shocked to learn of her sister’s death. She said her elder sister was in her fifties.
