Attempted cover up at the Georgetown Hospital as body is switched and post mortem carried out on wrong body without family’s consent. The latest cancer victim 6 year old Sherezer Mendonca who died yesterday while on life support was handed over as another 6 year old Delicia Wailoo to a Bartica family for burial.
Lawyers for the Mendonca family yesterday requested by way of letter a stay on the post mortem for Monday 8am and the presence of a private pathologist to be flown in from Trinidad. But when the family got to the hospital after lunch on Friday to uplift Sherezer’s body to have it secured at a private mortuary it was missing.
Following checks it was discovered that 2 bodies were switched even with the name tags intact. Government pathologist Dr.Nehaul Singh who performed the autopsy on Sherezer Mendonca with her name tag intact wrote his finding as Cardiac Failure as the cause of death on a certificate with the name Wailoo Delicia.
The family with Sherezer’s body was almost at Parika when contact was made. The Wailoo family claimed that they positively identified Delicia Wailoo before this happened. There is no record at the security check of a body leaving. According to a lawyer this seems to be an attempt to pervert the course of justice and compromise the investigation that has been launched into 3 deaths of children suffering from leukemia. The drug used in their treatment was also discontinued.
Meanwhile 6 year old Delicia Wailoo who fits an almost identical body built to Sherezer died on Wednesday last, her body is still awaiting post mortem examination.
