Georgetown: One week after 19-year-old Sasia Adams reportedly was pushed out of her boyfriend’s moving car on Lamaha Street Georgetown her boyfriend on Tuesday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with manslaughter.
Twenty-one year-old Rick Sewcharran of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara was not required to plea to the charge which alleged that on June 10, 2018, at Lamaha Street, Georgetown, Sewcharran unlawfully killed 19-year-old Sasia Adams.
Adams, originally of Essequibo, who resided at East Street, Georgetown succumbed to head injuries on June 12.
The courtroom was filled with the relatives of Sewcharran as the manslaughter charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan.
He was granted bail in the sum of $500,000 and is expected to make his next court appearance on July 13, 2018.
He was represented by Attorney-at-law Sanjeev Datadin, who told the court that Adams’ death was an “unfortunate accident”.
A Post Mortem Examination (PME) conducted on the remains of Adams revealed that she died from blunt trauma to the head. The PME was conducted by Government Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh.
Adams who was a front desk clerk at the Princess Ramada Hotel reportedly arrived at the Balwant Singh’s hospital in a conscious state and told a doctor that she had fallen and hit her head at her East Street, Georgetown home.
