More women are being diagnosed with breast cancer in Barbados, says Dr Shirley Hanoman-Jhagoo of the Barbados Cancer Society.
According to Hanoman-Jhagoo, in 2008 there were 146 news cases, which rose to 150 in 2009 and to 200 in 2010. She stressed that while breast cancer is increasing, the breast cancer mortality rate has remained between nine and ten percent, when compared with the total deaths from all cancers.
Hanoman-Jhangoo attributed this to early detection.
