Georgetown: Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill Tuesday installed a new Board of the Sea and River Defences, which will be chaired by Brigadier Gary Beaton.

The 20-member Board will serve for one year. Directors of the Sea and River Defence Board include Captain Stephen Thomas, Mr. Kevin Samad, Mr. Satnarine Singh, Mr. Rawle Aaron, Ms. Heide Gillette, Ms. Anita Rampersaud, Ms. Anita Wilson-Layne, Mr. Bhageshwar Murli, Mr. Arnold Adams, Mr. Sheik Ayube, Mr. Desmond Morian, Mr. Rion Peters, Mr. David Armogan, Mr. Sherwyn Greaves, Mr. Lionel Wordsworth, Mr. Michael Hutson, Ms. Kene Mosley and Ms. Sharifah Razack. Meanwhile, Mr. Jermaine Braithwaite will serve as Secretary.
The Board comprises of Regional officials (Chairman and Vice Chair), Engineers, Marketing Specialists, Management Consultants, Chief Executive Officers and other high level representatives from various agencies.
Minister Edghill offered warm congratulatory messages to the team while charging them to ensure that their work is done in a professional manner, and in adherence to the laws of Guyana. Moreover, the Public Works Minister highlighted the important role the Board will play in ensuring there is an ease of doing business in Guyana, by facilitating major transformational projects.
He also pointed to the positive impact Guyana’s waterways can have.
According to the Minister, “Guyana has become a hotspot and it is going to become a bigger hotspot (with the onset of) shore base developments, waterfront developments, provision of facilities for wharves and berthing of ships and boats of all kinds have become a necessity, practically in every Region.”
As a consequence, the Public Works Minister explained to the new Board that the movement of necessary supplies will no longer be limited to the road and airways, as the required infrastructure will soon come on stream.
