Georgetown : Speaking at a post-Cabinet press briefing at the Office of the President, Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS), Dr. Roger Luncheon today said that an amendment to the Traffic Act and the Wildlife and Broadcasting Bill are seen as priority. The latter will be tabled in the House at the next sitting on July 14.
Dr. Luncheon further stated that Cabinet was also updated on the progress of the proceedings in the Parliamentary Special Select Committee tasked with examining the Freedom of Information Bill (FOI) under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister Samuel Hinds.
The Bill will pave the way for hassle free access to information under the control of public authorities in order to promote transparency and accountability in the working of Government and public authorities and for the appointment of the Commissioner of Information. It also imposes the process of how to apply for detailed information as well as what rights an individual can enjoy as a result of an application.
