The 2012 suger crop will surpass expectations, at the start of the harvest late in February, sugar industry officials were forecasting a yield of 20 thousands tonnes of sugar at the end of the crop.
A source told Trakker News that target has been revised and close to 25 thousands tonnes of sugar will be produced when the crop ends this month.
At the end of April,18 thousand tonnes of sugar had been by the two factories operating on the island, just under 180 thousand tonnes of cane was used to produce this amount of sugar, resulting in a ton of cane to a ton of sugar ratio of just over ten percent.
Ten thousand tonnes of sugar was exported to the European Union last week, another shipment will be sent at the end of the crop.
