Georgetown: Guyana Business Coalition HIV/AIDS celebrated 6 years on May 23, 2014 as a registered non-profit organization which works with the Business Sector, the Ministry of Health, International Partners and Community Based Organizations to mobilize resources to assist in the National HIV/AIDS response. Since launching in 2008, GBCHA expanded its mandate to address general health and wellness including Gender Based Violence.
As part of anniversary celebrations the Coalition launched a campaign, “Working Together… Achieving Zero” with USAID -funded Advancing Partners and Communities (APC) on May 22, 2014. GBCHA also launched the call for entries for their Annual Awards for Business Excellence which will be held in August 2014 to showcase successes of health and wellness initiatives supported by the Business Sector. Members of the Coalition will assemble on May 28, 2014 for their Annual General Meeting.
Ms. Tracey Lewis, Chairperson of GBCHA, expressed gratitude to members and partners. “I thank you for your continued support and encourage your commitment to a healthy workforce”.
The services offered by GBCHA through its Secretariat are: Provision of technical assistance for development of workplace programmes and policies; Training of employees as peer educators to share knowledge & resources in their workplaces and communities; Conducting awareness sessions at workplaces on HIV and other health issues, as well as other topics such as gender based violence; Distribution of materials to members such as brochures and condoms; Free, Confidential HIV testing services provided at Secretariat and at workplaces on request; Help to develop strategies which support community outreach activities
