Westmoorings: The Government has received full support from key players in the business community for the extension of the State of Emergency and new curfew hours.
Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Katherine Kumar says crime has for far too long been the number one problem in the country and the time has come to deal decisively with the problem.
She says they would have preferred the curfew be shifted to the hours of midnight to four in the morning, instead of the now 11pm to 4am times, particularly to accomodate the hospitality and entertainment industries.
Meanwhile president of the Downtown Owners and Merchants Association Gregory Aboud says the government really had little choice in extending the State of Emergency given the spiralling crime problem.
He says there has been an abatement in crime since the State of Emergency was initiated two weeks ago and he expects further inroads in crime in the coming weeks.
