Businessman Samuel Collin Ming succumbs after crash

Georgetown: Prominent businessman and well-known entrepreneur, Stanley Ming said the death of his brother has left him completely devastated and he has lost a significant part of himself.

Samuel Collin Ming, 67, a businessman and sports enthusiast of Delhi Street, Prashad Nagar, died on Friday in the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he was admitted and was undergoing treatment for injuries sustained during an accident on April 1, 2021.

The businessman was a lover of sports and served on a number of sporting bodies over the years. He was well known in the car racing, squash and golf arenas and was also a lover of motorcycles.

Ming was riding his motorcycle, CE 614, when he collided with an ambulance, PVV 7693, on JB Singh Road and Thomas Lands, Georgetown

“As brothers who were very close for over 66 years, struggling together since childhood, to develop ourselves, we never allowed anyone to divide us. Like all siblings we had our fair share of rows and different opinions over the years, but always looked out for each other. Colin cannot be replaced, and l have lost a significant part of my being,” Stanley Ming noted in a Facebook post.

He continued: “I feel very sad, but at the same time very strong, with all the support around me, as l am steeled to ensure that his family and mine are now my responsibility, until my time comes.”

Further he noted: “Like all siblings we had our fair share of rows and different opinions over the years, but always looked out for each other. Colin cannot be replaced, and l have lost a significant part of my being.”

According to police report, enquiries disclosed that the ambulance driver alleges by that he was proceeding north along Irving Street at about 45kmph and had on the siren while sounding his horn and as he was crossing the intersection of JB Singh and Thomas Road, the motorcycle which was proceeding west on JB Singh Road collided to the rear right side portion of the ambulance.

As a result of the collision the motorcyclist fell onto the roadway and received injuries about his body.

He was picked up in a conscious condition by the EMT and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Both vehicles were damaged. A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the ambulance noted that no trace of alcohol was found on his breath.

According to the driver’s statement; he was transporting a COVID patient to Liliendaal.

The ambulance driver is expected to be charged soon.
