The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) has signed a 58 million dollar agreement to install a hundred thousand smart water metres across the country and the introduction of new management systems.
The contract was signed by chairman of the Barbados Water Authority Dr. Atlee Brathwaite and Luc Allary, regional director business development for Central America and the Caribbean at the Canadian Commercial Coporation.
Also witnessing the signing was Canada's high commissioner to Barbados Richard Hanley and Barbados minister of water resource management Dr. David Estwick.
According to Estwick, over the years, the island has been struggling with revenue loss from leaking mains and faulty meters.
He said several other water management projects are to be undertaken with Canada including a reverse osmosis plant.

Canadian Commercial Corporation is the prime contractor and will be working with another firm Cowater International, to deliver the key components of the project.
