Georgetown: Almost 1,000 persons received their house lots at a One Stop Shop held at Uitvlugt/Leonora Estate Community Centre Complex recently.
Under the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), the Housing Minister, Irfaan Ali said “The PPP/C Government remains committed to ensuring that every single Guyanese own their home, and we have to ensure that this commitment is shared among all stakeholders, this commitment is shared among all political workers, political parties, because in our society we’re seeing a lot of petty politics and politics that can derail the development process”.
Minister Ali assured persons that Government will remain committed to bringing improvement in the living conditions and livelihood of people across the country.
The development of the housing areas is being done at tremendous cost to the government. “Taking into consideration all the revenue and all the expenditure, there is a difference of $537M… but for this Government that is not a loss because we are investing in your lives and your future,” he told the beneficiaries.
Minister Ali, speaking to the developments taking place in Region Three, highlighted the major road developments occurring. He said that by the end of 2013, the CH&PA would have delivered more than 2,400 new house lots to Region Three.
“In the PPP/C Manifesto promise of delivering 30,000 house lots to the Guyanese people in the next five years coming from 2011, we would be ahead of that target by almost 14.5%”.
He reiterated that house lots given to persons are not for sale and they should start putting up their houses as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, in other works slated for Region Three, there will be road upgrades for Zeelugt, Zeeburg and Tuschen, that will benefit 2,500 people at a cost of $600M.
Other major investments in Region 3 for 2013 will see ongoing works in Parfaite Harmonie Housing Scheme with developments in Lust-en-Rust. The total investment in those areas is $3B.
Additionally, the main access road to the Parfaite Housing Scheme has works scheduled to the cost of $400M.
