Call for crack down on unlicensed and uninsured drivers

Bridgetown.

President of the Barbados Road Safety Association Sharmaine Rolan-Bowen is appealing to local law enforcement to clamp down on the number of motorists who use the roads without the requisite driver's license and motor insurance.

Roland-Bowen notes that the number of motorists guilty of committing this offence appears to be on the increase and this she says concerns her association immensely.

She says when these people become involved in accidents it is often to the disadvantage of legitimate license holders.

The Road Safety Assocciation boss made the comment during a memorial church vigil at the Black Bess New Testament Church in St. Peter in remembrance of the lives of three youth who were killed tragically in a vehicular accident last year.

Roland Bowen says the charge of driving without due car and attention needs to be taken more seriously by law enforcement and guilty motorists need to face the law courts.
