Head of the Royal Barbados Police Force Crime Prevention Unit, Station Sargeant O Neil Small is advocating more communtities to buy into the concept of establishing neighourbour watches.
In a candid interview with Caribbean Trakker this afternoon, Small said that in the areas that Neighbourhood Watches there are a lower incident of crime.
"The purpose of a Neighbourhood Watch, is to empower residents with knowledge that enables them to understand the dynamics under which crime occur .Ever session I conduct I ask the audience if they know the name and the address of the person who cut their lawn.On each ocassion that I pose the question, I am surprised at the number of people who says no", says Small.
"A Neighbourhood Watch teach people to recognise suspicious behaviour and alert other residents and the police, this give us a change at catching the perpetrators of the crime", he added.
