Georgetown : Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana Dr. Nicole Giles and United States Charged’Affaires Mr. Bryan D Hunt met yesterday with representatives of A Partnership for National Unity at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, Hadfield Street, Georgetown. The meeting was part of a series of consultations with political parties and various stake holders in the run-up to the May 2011 General and Regional Elections. The APNU team was led by the Leader of the Opposition Brigadier David A Granger.
The main focus of the discussion was preparations for General and Regional elections and the concerns of the American, British and Canadians regarding free and fair elections in Guyana. Some the concerns included, equitable access to the media (free and paid), campaign financing and a code of conduct for parties contesting the elections.
Brigadier David Granger and his team briefed the diplomats on APNU’s preparedness for the upcoming elections and shared many of the Partnership’s concerns as they relate to the conduct of the elections in Guyana.
The Leader of the Opposition was accompanied to the meeting by APNU General Secretary Mr. Joseph Harmon, Shadow Minister for Local and Regional Development Mr. Ronald Bulkan and APNU Director of Communications Mr. Mark Archer.
