Caribbean Airlines gets approval to fly from Barbados to St Lucia, Guyana

Port-of-Spain: Caribbean Airlines today launched three new routes in the Caribbean after they received approval from the Barbados Civil Aviation Authority to fly inter-Caribbean routes out of Barbados.

The airline will introduce direct on stop flights between Barbados, St Lucia and Guyana three times a week.

Chairman of Caribbean Airline Goerge Nicholas III says this now takes the airline down a new path of service to its customers.

It was only last week that Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar revealed that this country would be seeking to initiate busines ties with South-South countries.

The prices range from US$39 to US$59.

Transport Minister Devant Maharaj admits that obatining the approvals from the Barbados Civil Aviation Authority was no easy task but he is pleased that it was given.

He says the expansion proves the viability of Caribbean Airlines, at a time when others are struggling.

Both the transport minister and the airline's chairman say the airline has its sights set on flying to India and is exploring other routes.

Caribbean Airlines will commence flights to its new routes later this week and January next year.
