Caribbean Airlines passengers still stranded – Government disappointed over treatment of Guyanese

Georgetown : There are reports this morning of several persons stranded since last Tuesday and no word from Caribbean Airlines (CAL).

Following the reopening of the JFK airport on Monday night, after its closure due to Hurricane Irene, CAL had promised to charter flights from North America to airlift stranded Guyanese passengers.
Last evening

Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Maniram Prashad reiterated Government’s disappointment with Caribbean Airlines’ treatment of Guyanese and encourages a formal protest action.
He said the first flight was scheduled to leave on Tuesday at 4:30a.m which saw passengers checking in as early as 10 p.m on Monday night, only to be told shortly before the scheduled departure that the flight will be arriving later in the day around 6:30 p.m.
Passengers waited patiently but that flight did not materialise and later in the day, they were told that the flight will depart at 6:30 p.m and this time there was no flight as well.
