Caricom Chairman arrived for high level meetings

DSC_00191Georgetown : Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Haitian President, His Excellency Michel Martelly, arrived in Guyana last evening aboard a Caribbean Airlines’ aircraft along with a delegation. Prime Minister Samuel Hinds was at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport tarmac to greet the Haitian leader.

Mr Martelly will be in Guyana from March 20-22 to pay an official visit to the CARICOM Secretariat at Liliendaal and to meet with Head of State Donald Ramotar and members of his Cabinet. He will meet with Caricom’s Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque and his management team today, at the Secretariat’s headquarters as well as the secretariat’s staff.

A Memorandum of Understanding between Guyana and Haiti on Food Security and Traceability will be signed. President Martelly is accompanied by Mr Pierre Richard Casimir, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Wilson Laleau, Minister of Trade and Industry.

President Martelly took over the chair of Caricom on January 1, 2013 and will serve in that capacity until June 30, 2013.
