Georgetown – People’s National Congress Reform member Joan Bagavems took up former shadow finance Minister’s seat Winston Murray this afternoon when the 2011 Budget is being presented.

Bagavems was sworn in before Speaker of the National Assembly Ralph Ramkarran.

Georgetown–  The police traffic department continue to ignore the serious dangers posed by stray animals on the roadways, which is major contributor to many fatal accidents. A stray running across the road was responsible for the death of  21 year old Naomi Nedd of Soedyke Linden, after her mother who was driving, swerved and slammed into a tree. Years now the police planned on using stray catchers and take action against the owners of  strays roaming the roadways, however these stray catchers are still parked in the police compound.

West Demerara–  The police are expected to charge a 40 year old man today for manslaughter after he was arrested for allegedly killing his friend following a fight last evening. According to reports Dhanpaul Rambarack, 46, of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara was pronounced dead at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. The fight happened at the suspects home after a heated exchange between the two over money. Reports are that Rambarack collapsed after several blows and never regained consciousness.

 East Coast Demerara– A local Imam in a named East Coast village was caught red handed with his hand around the waist of a 14 year old girl during masjid lessons. According to concerned parents in the village, there have been numerous complaints about the particular masjid leader. Reports are that three parents visited the masjid unexpected one day  while the Imam was conducting quranic lessons, and caught him red-handed.

Georgetown- In the absence of any special circumstances to decide the fate of a 65 year old American granny confined to a wheelchair, bailed was denied in the charge of cocaine possession. In her appearance at the Magistrate’s court she told the Magistrate that she lived all her life in the states, and is unaware of what is happening. Asked what she was doing in Guyana and about relatives here, the woman Maxine Dax gave an address in the States and explained that she has no clue what is taking place.
