Former Prime Minister Owen Arthur, has lauded the contribution the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies is making to economy of Barbados.
In a address to a meeting of the Human Resource Management Association of Barbados, Arthur described the Cave Hill Campus as a economic force that needed to be liberated by the Government of Barbados.
Arthur told the members of the association the campus has earned more foreign exchange than some hotels and has already earned more foreign dollars than the local currency invested in its opperations.
"Its economic impact on the immediate community is large and profound," Arthur said.
"In 2010 over 500 visitors came to Barbados as a result of the campus opperations, there were several major conferences and meetings from sports to symposia and graduations, there are over 2,000 non Barbadians residents here who are part of the university community", he added.
"The Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West indies is a silent assets in need of liberation and advocacy", says Arthur.
