Georgetown: Clerical & Commercial Workers’ Union (CCWU) appointed Sherwood Clarke as their new President at the third triennial Delegates’ Conference Election.
Clarke will now take over from Kim Alley who has served as acting president for approximately two years.
Sherwood Clarke said the office which is located at Lot 140 Quamina Street, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown, has many key objectives and he is determined to achieve these aims with the support of their newly appointed board of committee members.
“Through the past two decades I served the organization in an assortment of capacities, eventually rising to the Executive of the Union. I owe a debt of gratitude to former General Secretary Mr. George De Peana, past presidents; Mr. Fitzgerald Agard and the late Mr. Roy Hughes, past General Secretaries Mr. Grantley Culbard and the late Mr. Birchmore Philadelphia, as well as current General Secretary Mrs. Ann Anderson and colleagues in the Executive, who all helped to shape my character by freely sharing invaluable advice and thoughts. It is now my duty to expand that tradition.” He said. “Both trade unions and the government have a role to play and stressed that the government must provide the legal protection whilst trade unions should deliver the collective bargaining.”
