The new operational training centre of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Centre (CDEMA) will be based in Barbados.
Executive Director of CDEMA Jeremy Collymore, told Trakker News the centre is being established with funds from the United States Southern Command and land from the Government of Barbados.
Collymore said the United States Southern Command has pledged over US$million over a five year period, while the Government has identified land at Lower Estate, St Michael.
"The construction of the facility will begin later this year, subject to the provision of the land by Government and hopefully it will be competed in time for next year's hurricane season", says Collymore.
He added that CDEMA is seeking to improve its operational capability and thinks that the facility will make a significant imorovement to CDEMA's operations.
