Cdn$5M project sealed- to address shortcomings affecting crop production

Georgetown : The Ministry of Agriculture and the McGill University of Canada today inked a three-year CAN$5M partnership agreement with the objective of stimulating greater food security.The project themed “Improving the Nutrition and Health of CARICOM Populations,” which falls under the Caribbean International Food Security Research Fund is being financed by the International Development Research Centre of Canada and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud in delivering remarks said that the project will significantly allow Guyana to address shortcomings due to climate change, which has been affecting production.
Dr. Chandra Madramootoo, Dean of Faculity of Agriculture and Other Sciences, McGill University, Canada, said that the programme is part of Canada’s commitment as a member of the G8 to address food security crisis faced.
