Georgetown: Georgetown: An alleged cell phone thief who was in police custody at the Stabroek Market Police Outpost recently escaped after attacking a police corporal.
The prisoner had found a cutlass under the police desk which he used to chop the links on a handcuff before fleeing into the street where he made good his escape.

It is alleged that the police corporal in charge and a few junior ranks had handcuffed the man’s right hand to a metal bar attached to a wall inside the mobile police outpost and had placed him to sit on a bench.
The prisoner during the day had kept kicking the walls of the outpost and threw his food bowl and a wooden object at ranks that were stationed outside the facility.
One rank said he implored the Corporal to transfer the man to the Brickdam Police Station, but his requests went unheard.
The man said all this time the very muscular prisoner kept shouting at the top of his voice that he is very strong and is a very good sprinter, perhaps forewarning of his intention to escape.
Something the police ranks ignored to their own detriment. The man made good his escape when a lone female constable who was on duty.
