Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce elects new President

Newly elected Executives

Berbice: The Central Corentyne Chamber of Commerce (CCCC) has elected Leekha Rambrich as its new President at the chamber’s Annual General Meeting. She replaces Imran Hamid who held the post for two consecutive years and during which time she acted as Vice President. Rambrich is also the President of the Guyana Rice Producers’ Association and one of the large-scale rice farmers in Region Six.

At the election, Hamid was elected to serve as Assistant Treasurer, while former Treasurer, Tajpaul Adjodhea, was elevated to the position of Vice President. At the AGM, the other office bearers elected were: Surendra Ganesh of NPG Packaging – Treasurer; Krishnanand Raghunandan, an Anthropologist – Secretary; Bibi Azeez, a Travel Consultant – Assistant Secretary; and Adrian Anamayah, an Attorney – Public Relations Officer. The executive would serve for the period 2012-2013.

In addition, several council members were also elected, Anand Matadeen, Mohamed Raffik, Mohin Persaud, Deonarain Balram, Rafeek Kasmalee, Vimal Ganesh, and Poonai Bhigroog.

The chamber, founded in November 2004, has been hosting the annual Berbice Expo and Trade Fair that has grown over the years. The chamber is preparing to stage its eighth Berbice Expo and Trade Fair in July 2012. Among some of the outstanding work done by the chamber was the recent renovation of the kitchen at the Whim Police Station, while it collaborated with Republic Bank’s Rose Hall Town Branch, GuySuCo, and businessman Deonarain Balram to refurbish a pavilion at the Albion Sports Complex.

In a more significant project, the chamber was at the forefront of the re-opening of the Felix Austin Police College at Adventure, Corentyne in 2009. Since then four batches of police recruits have been trained at the Felix Austin Police College.
