Claxton Bay: The Chamber of Industry and Commerce is calling for an end to the strike at Trinidad Cement Limited and for the company and the Oilfields Workers Trade Union to return to the negotiating table.
In a statement issued last evening, the Chamber makes it clear it does not support in any way, the threatened or real shut down of any commercial activity in this country, since it believes such industrial action can damage the country's already fragile economy.
The Chamber believes the strike by TCL employees will only serve to stymie efforts to revitalise the wavering construction sector.
It is also concerned about reports of shortages of cement in Tobago, which are reportedly causing huge losses in revenue.
