“Child abuse watch groups” being touted by CPA

Georgetown: The Child Protection Agency (CPA) has indicated that in the near future they will be promoting “child abuse watch groups,”   according to Director of the agency Ann Greene.

Greene said moves are being made to widen the level of community and citizen response in relation to child protection.

Adding that community outreach is the agency’s main weapon in ensuring child safety, Greene said the agency would act on reports made and if this does not happen then it would be difficult for the agency to just know of a matter.

She further said in 2013 representatives of the agency will be visiting various communities, especially those most vulnerable to offer training and meeting sessions with persons wanting to be involved in the group.

Persons in the village can intercept these group members and relate or report cases that need agency attention. This initiative will have much focus on vulnerable communities such as those poverty stricken areas with at risk children. These watch groups will further be known to the community and it is the agency’s hope, Greene said that children themselves may become acquainted with the group members
