Child Protection week to be observed in Guyana Sept. 18th – 24th .

Georgetown : Ministry of Labour, Human Services & Social Security will commemorate Child Protection Week from September 18 to 24. This is an annual event led by the Child Care & Protection Agency to raise the level of awareness to the issue of child abuse, to propel individuals and groups into action to keep children safe.  All children should grow up in an environment that is free from abuse, neglect and exploitation. Child Protection Week highlights the rights of children to life without abuse and promotes that they be placed as a priority on any agenda for the development of people.

Child Protection Week is observed in over 120 countries around the world.  It was first observed in Guyana in the year 2004 as a week to “promote the value of children, to focus attention on the issues of child abuse and neglect, and to encourage local groups to participate in prevention activities.”

The theme this year is Community Partnerships for child protection.”
