Georgetown: The Mayor and Councillors of the City (M&CC) of Georgetown would commence works to construct a children’s play area for children of the Albouystown Community, an open spaces at the corners of in Bel Air and James Street Albouystown was identified for the project.
Community leader Mr. Heston Bostwick presented a copy of a plan to develop the open space. Bostwick said that a recreational facility is a felt need of the community, since the children who reside there do not have a recreational facility.
Town Clerk Royston King noted that this initiative forms part of a wider plan to transform and restore pride in communities. King said that it is important that the recreational needs of the children be considered and addressed. He further noted that is important to develop theses spaces within the communities so that children do not have to travel outside of their community to access such facilities. “It is important for the Municipality to provide recreational areas for the citizens where they live” king said.
He noted that a main play area would be done by the Council similar to one constructed at the Merriman’s Mall. Town Clerk Royston King said restoration of parks is important to the social and environmental viability of the communities.
The Council had commenced works to restore play parks and recreational spaces in the City of Georgetown these areas include the Merriman Mall, Roxanne Burnham Play area.
