Georgetown : Chinese investors across Guyana are being urged to invest in the value-added sectors, as a means to promote the ‘Made in Guyana’ brand.
The call was made by the Minister of State, Joseph Harmon at the Region Three, Regional Agriculture and Commercial Exhibition (RACE), held at Leonora recently.
The Minister noted that while the country has seen an influx of Chinese investors in the food and clothing sectors, they are yet to begin industrial production locally.
“You are Guyanese and we acknowledge you, we welcome you and we are therefore looking forward to your investment in this region; to the investment not just in supermarkets and things of that nature. But we look for investments in the agricultural sector; investments that will take our farmers products to another level,” Minister Harmon said.
Expressing confidence in the current Chinese investors, the State Minister remarked that he was anticipating the construction of factories and other infrastructural projects in Region Three to further boost the value-added sectors.
“This is how you demonstrate that you have integrated yourself into the fabric of our society,” Minister Harmon underscored.
